CAREER TRACK
New Market Opportunities for Innovative Farmers

Moderator: Kim Thorne
Ontario Organic Council

There is a rising demand for not only a safe and environmentally friendly food supply, but a secure home grown one as well. From SPIN farming to Community Shared Agriculture, new initiatives are bringing food to market in many different ways, each with their own priorities, and accommodating widely different situations. Which one could work for you?

You’ve definitely got to check out Helge Hellberg’s videos (video 4; above) if you’re interested in farming and doing restaurant sales (as an example). Unfortunately his wonderful keynote isn’t available.

Helge states that the more sustainable you are the more money you make. For real? Helge knows about the opportunities first hand.

For example, you can use local-organic food and farming to:

link it to global carbon trading to pay farmers for being good stewards of the land

boost productivity & health of workers at large campuses of Hewlett Packard

Check out the video gallery for more 2008 conference videos.
